Eugene L. “Louie” Stoltz, 82, of 2457 Illinois Street S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, December 21, 2007, in his home following sudden illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors.
Survivors include his children, Lucinda Werderman of Anamosa, Judy (Jeff) Shimek of Walker and Stuart Stoltz of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Lisa (Bill) Horrigan, Mandy (Chris) Robertson, Jacob, Justin and Tyler Stoltz, Jill Keen and Jennifer (Brian) Colburn; seven great grandchildren; sister, Mae (Clarence) Sheppard of Hiawatha; and brother-in-law, Clayton DeGroot of Chamberlain, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Winifred.
Louie was born July 15, 1925, in West Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Nettie (Hammerand) Stoltz. On December 20, 1952, he was united in marriage to Winifred DeGroot. She died November 25, 1998. Louie served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Second Class during WWII. He worked in the machine shop at Universal Engineering for 33 years and for Century Cab.
Louie was a member of the American Bowling Congress for over 50 years and the Machinists Union for over 30 years.
Military honors by American Legion Hanford Post #5.
A memorial fund has been established in Louie’s memory.
