Eugene Charles Fredrick

Eugene Charles Fredrick, 92, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Grand Meadows in Asbury, Iowa. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester, Iowa. Burial at Fairview Cemetery in Earlville, Iowa, will follow.

Eugene Charles Fredrick, 92, was born in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the son of John Otto and Laura (Bartels) Fredrick on October 16, 1932. He spent his childhood in Strawberry Point before marrying Jeanette Ortberg on May 5, 1952. Together they relocated to Earlville, Iowa, where they had four sons, William "Bud", Thomas, Charles, and Elmer "Jay".

Eugene was born a truck driver, starting at the age of 16, working at Hartman's Quarry in Strawberry Point. He worked for Westhoff, Jack Link, Howard Bly, and Flexsteel during his lifetime. After 46 years of trucking he retired from Flexsteel. He was an avid NASCAR fan. Eugene enjoyed scroll sawing, fishing, camping, traveling, playing cards, and spending time with his family.

Eugene is survived by his sons, William "Bud" (Lou) of Dayton, Wisconsin, Thomas (Joyce) of Brewster, Massachusetts, Charles (Kim) of Dubuque, Iowa, Elmer "Jay" (Terry) of Ames, Iowa; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, Scott (Linda) Ortberg of Texas; sister-in-law, Janet Ortberg of Florida; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette; brothers, Carl and Harold; and sister, Elsie Shalkhauser.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Eugene's memory may be directed to the Hospice of Dubuque.
