Eugene L. Bowles, 71 of 1225 16th Avenue SW, died Monday, January 20, 2003, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. William Harnish. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; two sons, Phil (Janet) Hughes and Dave Bowles, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three daughters, Sharon (Gene) Kanellis of Rockfalls, Illinois, Linda (Ray) Offerman of Cedar Rapids and Tammy (Teddy) Anderson of Toddville, Iowa; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother Norman of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Donna; and two brothers, Buck and Lewis.
Gene was born May 11, 1931, the son of Lee and Viola (Tlor) Bowles, in Potosi, Wisconsin. In 1963, he married Doris Hess in Oregan, Illinois. Gene retired from the city of Cedar Rapids after 25 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and building his train. Gene lived and loved life to its fullest and always put his family first.
