Esther A. Schuyler, 96, of 323 23rd Street NE, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, May 5, 2004, in her home. Services: 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 8, 2004, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Sister Delores Hannon and Sister Linda Bechen. Family will greet friends from noon until service time on Saturday at the funeral home. Private Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane Schuyler and husband, David Sharpe of Cedar Rapids; her nieces and nephews, Robert (Elaine) Lockhart of Idlywild, California, Joyce (Jim) Starks of Woodland Hills, California, Jacqueline (Chris) Severn of Thousand Oaks, California, James (Karen) Lockhart of Lancaster, California, and Beryl (Marsha) Lockhart of Northridge, California; and great friends, Lyla Wubbena, Mardell Loss, Dick and Carole Ferguson, all of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Averill, Beryl Averill and Eugene Averill; and two sisters, Lucille Lockhart and Ruth Ebbert.
Esther was born October 14, 1907, the daughter of Fred and Alice Dougherty Averill, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On September 17, 1928, she was united in marriage to Duane Schuyler in Iowa City, Iowa. He died November 17, 2000. For 26 years, Esther worked as an executive secretary for B R Averill Investments.
