Esther C. Hickey, 86, of Central City, died Friday, December 15, 2006, in her home following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2006, at St. Stephen Catholic Church by Rev. Wayne Droessler. Visitation will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City where a scripture will begin at 5:00 p.m. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City.

Survivors include two daughters, Catherine (Tony) Valigura of Conifer, Colorado and Caroline Hickey of Washington D.C.; a son, William (Joanie) Hickey of Central City, Iowa and Marathon, Florida; two grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Hill of Cedar Rapids and Jon (Susie) Hickey of Central City; five great-grandchildren, Alison Hickey, Abby Hill, Mackenzie Hill, Andrew Hickey, and Halle Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers.

Esther was born February 14, 1920, the daughter of William and Louise "Lizzie? (Shaffer) Ibsen in Clarence, Iowa. On June 29, 1946, she married Melvin Hickey at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He died December 7, 1984. Esther was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, St. Stephen Ladies Guild, and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 421.
