Esther was born August 3, 1918, in Oxford Junction, Iowa, the youngest daughter of Theresa and Joseph Koranda. She grew up in Cedar Rapids and attended elementary, junior high and senior high schools in Cedar Rapids. Esther married Stanley Pazour in 1937 and later divorced. In 1957, she married Robert Carie. He died in 2000.
Esther was one of the first 30 girls hired on the assembly line during the outbreak of World War II at Collins Radio, a very patriotic time in everyone?s life. She had several different jobs while raising her family.
Esther thought of herself as a spiritual person. She was baptized as a child at Calvary Baptist Church, but didn?t attend church in later years. Esther always felt like church was within her heart and felt that God was always walking beside her. She never thought of herself as being an expert at anything, yet she excelled at homemaking, writing poetry, cooking and was affectionately known as the "Kolache Queen.? Her goal in life was to live to see her three daughters grown and educated so they could always take care of themselves. She was blessed to see that and also to see grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Esther?s hobbies were reading, doing crossword puzzles, learning the computer at the age of 80 (with her kids as tutors) plus traveling, fishing, mushrooming, dancing and music she shared with her husband, Bob.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Dr. J. David Cowden, St Luke?s Hospice and ICU.
