Erwin Joseph "Joe? Babich, 68, of Marion, died Monday, August 25, 2003, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2003, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion, by the Rev. John Gossman. Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, with a Rosary recited at 6:30 p.m. and a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.

Surviving are his wife, Ellen; his children Jo (Robert) Joy of Norwalk, Terri (Frank) White of Clearwater, Florida, Nicole (Scott) Nelson and John Babich, both of Marion; two sisters, Helen (Peter) Trobak and Barb (Frank) Landfried, both of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania; a brother, Nick (Phyllis) Babich of Columbus, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Maurice)Korte of Highland, Illinois; and numerous nieces and nephews

Also surviving are ten grandchildren, Paul, Nathan, John, Joshua, Mary, Peter, Alyssa, Seth, Jacob and Caleb. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Betty Babich, and an infant sister.

Joe was born the son of Nicholas and Helen Basco Babich on April 7, 1935, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. On February 21, 1959, in Highland, Illinois, he was united in marriage to Ellen Lebegue. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Greenland and Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Joe was employed at Rockwell Collins for over thirty years. From 1991 to 1995, Joe, owned and operated Computer Tutor and also taught Adult Education at Kirkwood Community College for many years.

Joe was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion; Knights of Columbus Council 5390 and Bowen General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, and was both Council and State Public Relations Chairman; American Legion Marion Post 298, which will conduct the military rites; and was a volunteer for Meal on Wheels.
