Ervin Elgin, 90, of Center Point, Iowa, died Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016, at Alice United Methodist Church, Center Point, Iowa. Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, Iowa, with an additional visitation from 10 until service time on Friday. Burial: Alice Cemetery, Center Point.
Survivors include his children, Marilyn (George) Saul of Marion, Iowa, Steve (Sandi) Elgin of Urbana, Iowa, Larry (Mary) Elgin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Terry (Allen) Moore of Lakeville, Minnesota, and Gerald (Tammy) Elgin of Waseca, Minnesota, and 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, James (LuAnn) Stewart; and sisters-in-law, Darlene Elgin, Jeanette Elgin, and Shirley Stewart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley in 2010; son, Bruce; grandson, Andrew Moore; brothers and sister-in-law, Marvin (Jeanne) Elgin, Lyle Elgin, Robert Elgin; sister and brother-in-law, Erma (David) Carmen; and brother-in-law, Leland Stewart.
Ervin was born on June 5, 1926, in Center Point, Iowa, son of Elcy and Beulah (Boyles) Elgin. He graduated from Center Point High School. Ervin served in the United States Army during World War II. Ervin was a farmer and also worked at Collins Radio until he retired in 1983. He married Shirley Jeanne Stewart on July 27, 1947, at the Alice United Methodist Church. Ervin was a member of the Center Point American Legion and the Alice United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards, camping, fishing, and reading. After their retirement, the couple spent their winters in Texas. He also spent a lot of hours helping at the church. The joy of Ervin’s life were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he would light up when his family was around.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials may be made to the Alice United Methodist Church, or the Center Point American Legion.
