Ernest "Ernie? J. Moes, 75, of Central City, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at home, from ALS (Lou Gehrig?s Disease). Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2007, at United Church of Christ in Central City by Pastor Jonna Jensen. Visitation will be from 4-7 Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, with military honors.

Survivors include Julie, his wife of forty-eight years; his children, John Moes and wife Janet of Manchester, Mary Morrison and husband Bill of Mason City, James Moes and wife Aurora of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Sarah Ferreter and husband Damon of Robins; and six grandchildren, Ashlynn, Christine, Luke, Emily, Leah, and Elizabeth.

Also surviving are five brothers and sisters, Catherine Zwiener and husband Sylvester, Francis Moes and wife Caroline, Fred Moes and wife Glenda, Lucille Chase and husband Melvin, and Mary Haldiman and husband Norman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie Marguerite (Hubsch) Moes.

Ernest was born on a farm near Kearney in Buffalo County, Nebraska on March 25, 1931, to Marie and John Moes. He enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict and spent thirteen months in Alaska. He went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering (BSEE). On January 17, 1959, he married Julie McCutchan in Seward County, Nebraska. They moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa the same year, where he began employment with Collins Radio. He worked for Collins Radio and Rockwell Collins for thirty-seven years, retiring in 1996.

Ernest and Julie began farming near Central City during the early 1970's and continued farming until two years ago. Ernest was a licensed pilot since 1951 and enjoyed the time he spent flying his Piper Tri-Pacer. When he was not farming or flying he was cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Military honors provided by American Legion Wapsi Post No. 421 of Central City.
