Erma Louise (Miller) Martin, 89, a resident of Crestview Acres Nursing Home in Marion, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, June 21, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following an extended illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion by Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer. Family will greet friends from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Campbell Cemetery, Bertram, Iowa.
Survivors include 3 children, Janet Harding of Marion, Grady Martin of Cedar Rapids, and Randy Martin of Cedar Rapids; 3 grandchildren, Tab, Scott, and Annette; 4 great-grandchildren, Amber, Brock, Nichole, and Austin and 1 great-great-grandson, Steven; and 2 sisters, Lova Fritsch of Galesburg, IL, and Elaine Robus of Heber Springs, AR.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; parents; brother, Donald Miller; and sister, Pauline Spivey.
Erma was born December 20, 1920, in rural Huron Township, Des Moines Co., Iowa, the daughter of Theodore W. and Gertrude G. (Sheridan) Miller. She graduated from University High School in Iowa City in 1938. On February 14, 1938, Erma was united in marriage to Kenneth W. Smith. They later divorced. She married Albert Halloway in December of 1945, and he passed away in May of 1946. On January 17, 1947, Erma married Leon G. Martin. Leon passed away July 11, 2000. Erma worked at Wilson’s Meat Packing and Allied Van Lines for many years, as well as being a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, and time spent with her family. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids for over 50 years and was a past-member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
