Erma Louise Dixon (Hindman)
March 23, 1915 — August 13, 2006
Erma Louise Dixon, 91, of Bourbonnais, Illinois, formerly of Marion, died Sunday, August 13, 2006, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee, Illinois, as a result of a pedestrian accident. Services: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, rural Marion, by the Rev. Burr Bryant. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Friday (Aug. 18) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Survivors include her children, Sharon Gourley of Corwith, Iowa, Marjorie (Jerry) Schrock of Bourbonnais, Illinois, Louise Cook of Boulder, Colorado, John Dixon of Brown Deer, Wisconsin, Steven (Alexa) Dixon of Lompoc, California, Kenneth (Etta) Dixon of Sacramento, California, Mary Jean (Allan) VanderMast of Parker, Colorado, and Laura Dixon of Denver, Colorado; twelve grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; two sons, David and Scott, and two sons-in-law Alan Cook and Ed Gourley.
Erma was born March 23, 1915, in rural Marion Township, the daughter of David Franklin Hindman and Mabel Cory Hindman. Erma was a graduate of Springville High School with the Class of 1933. On December 30, 1936, she was united in marriage to John A. Dixon at Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church. John passed away on September 27, 2000. Erma was a longtime member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church, where she served as church pianist from the time she was 14 years-old until she was 84 years-old. Erma gave piano lessons for several years, prior to becoming a full time homemaker. She was also active in the Farm Bureau Women's Chorus for many years.
