Eric Jacob Burns, 20, of 3211 Alburnett Road died suddenly, Saturday, January 4, 2003. Services: 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, by the Rev. Nick Longworth. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Surviving are his father, Steve Burns and wife Mary of Marion; his mother, Marcia Burns of Cedar Rapids; his sister, Myla (Dave Elger) Burns of Madison, Wisconsin; a brother, Greg Burns of Cedar Rapids; two stepbrothers, Brandon (Jennifer) Fairbanks of Marion and Brion (Tia) Fairbanks of Cedar Rapids; a stepsister, Brook Fairbanks of Marion; maternal grandmother, Marjorie Ongie of Cedar Rapids; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Burns of Marion; and maternal grandfather, Merle DeSotel of Independence.
Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Tylor, Cory, Caleb and Kylie Fairbanks; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many special friends. Eric was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandmother, Carolina Bloom and paternal grandfather, Clarence Burns.
Eric was born the son of Steven and Marcia DeSotel Burns on July 22, 1982, in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 2001, and was attending Kirkwood College and also working for Forman Ford Glass Company of Cedar Rapids.
Eric enjoyed many outdoor activities, writing poetry, playing the bass guitar, reading, and especially hanging out with his many friends.
Eric was loving, caring and thoughtful. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
