Emmet Dolan, 91, of Coggon, Iowa, died Friday, February 2, 2018, at the Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, Iowa, with Fr. Ardel Barta officiating. An Irish celebration will follow mass at the parish center. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Monti, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.
Emmet was born September 24, 1926, in Ryan, Iowa, the son of Oswald and Cecile (Martin) Dolan. He graduated from St. Patrick’s School in Ryan. On September 11, 1948, Emmet married Jeanne Reilly in Monti, Iowa. Emmet loved to sing and was very proud of his Irish heritage. He was a lifelong farmer with a passion for his horses. He enjoyed woodworking and creating unique knickknacks which are cherished by many. Emmet and Jeanne enjoyed 69 years of dancing. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monti and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Walker.
Emmet’s family includes his wife, Jeanne; children, Steve (Kathy) Dolan of Manchester, Diane Dolan (deceased), Joe (Ruth) Dolan of Coggon, Anne (Dan) Strellner of Cedar Rapids, Theresa (Brent) Winterhof of Center Point, Janet Dolan of Cedar Rapids, and Lori (Dan) Clark of Fairfax; grandchildren, Pat, Tami, and Mitch Dolan, Rachel (Al) Brecht, Sarah (Dave) Meyer, Ben Dolan, Erin (Owen) Stanley, Dave Strellner, Gavin (Amy) Winterhof, Colin (Jourdi) Winterhof, Logan Winterhof, Josh (Lydia) Clark, Tessa Clark, Keegan Clark; and many great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Emmet’s family to be distributed to charities in his memory.
