Emma L. (Fear) Reid, 87, of Urbana, Iowa & Yuma, Arizona, died Thursday, March 20, 2008 at Life Care Center of Yuma, in Yuma, AZ following a lengthy illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 28, 2008, Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, IA by the Rev. Tom Felts. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2008, at the funeral home. Burial: Urbana Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Earl R.; one brother, Roy D. Fear of Marion, Iowa; one sister, Eve M. Elliott of Marion; one son, Roger E. Reid (Sharon) of Yuma, Arizona, formerly of Marion, Iowa & Urbana, Iowa; five grandchildren, Steven E. Reid (Deborah) of Clear Lake, Minnesota, Darren R. Reid (Rebecca) of Columbia, South Carolina, Christopher R. Reid & friend Liz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Steven L. Cole (Kelly) of Olathe, Kansas, Robin S. (Cole) Ruhnke of Bayonet Point, FL; nine great-grandchildren; three nephews, four nieces; and one sister in-law; Mildred Fear of Dubuque, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Johnny, Herbert, Merle and Wayne; one sister, Elsie; one son, Leslie R. Reid who died January 14, 1986; and one daughter Sandra L. Reid, who died in infancy May 1947.
Emma was born May 20, 1920, at Hopkinton, Iowa, to John F. and Verna (Meister) Fear. She married Earl R. Reid at Independence, Iowa, on July 12, 1940.Emma, a 1939 graduate from Urbana High School, was a housewife for much of her life. After the children were grown, she worked at Baker’s Shoes for a time, and then for Hawkeye Seed, working with the pets. She was a member of the American Legion Walter J. Meyocks Post 264 Auxillary and past member of the Urbana Cemetery Association. Emma also volunteered with Hospice of Yuma, AZ for several years. She enjoyed going to garage sales, playing Skipbo and seeing her grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
