Elvera “Vera” Mae Olson passed away on November 3, 2023. A funeral service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on December 2, 2023, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3500 29th Ave, Marion, IA 52302. Visitation will take place at 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. A private burial will be in Oak Shade Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection.

Vera was born May 10, 1925, the daughter of John P. Irvine and Flossie E. (Stainer) Irvine in Dunn County Wisconsin. She graduated from Menomonie High School.

On November 21, 1945, she was united in marriage to Jonas H. Olson in Menomonie, Wisconsin. They moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and then to Marion, Iowa, where they made their home. They were married 40 years, until Joe’s passing in 1986.

Vera worked several jobs throughout her career, most notably at Irwin’s Clothing in Marion. Vera was a member of Marion Business Women’s Club, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and Sunday School teacher. Vera enjoyed golfing, playing cards, and traveling. She would plant a big garden to share, harvest and enjoy later. She was a wonderful baker. Vera loved music and enjoyed singing. She and Jonas loved to dance so she taught her grandchildren to polka.

Faith was very important to Vera. She was a Charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She was a part of the Mary Martha Circle, knitting, quilting, and XYZ group. If a project needed help, Vera was there to help.

Vera loved her family! She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed family dinners, trips, teaching/playing cards and sharing stories.

She is survived by her sons, Ronald “Ron,” Jeffrey Jay “Jay” (Sue Kula), and Randall “Randy” (Amy); grandchildren, Amee Olson (Michael Lane), Tyler Olson, Hannah (Jon) Deziel, Andrew Olson, Rachel Olson; great-grandchildren, Max, Madeleine and Olivia Lane, and Titus Olson; sisters, Ruth Sunne, Virginia Olson; sister-in-law, Birdie Olson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; Jonas, son; Michael Olson, brothers-in-law; Lorn Jaeger, Fred Wyss, Simon Olson, Gene Hammer, Don Hannack, John Olson, Kenneth Olson, Don Sunne, sisters-in-law; Katherine Jaeger, Norma Wyss, Betty Olson, Chris Hannack.
