Elvera Lohse Hollander Profile Photo
Elvera Lohse Hollander was born to Anna (Johanssen) & Carl Lohse near Schleswig on June 6, 1914. She quietly passed on Monday, October 13, 2014. She graduated from Schleswig High School in 1931, Grinell College in 1935, and American Institute of Business in 1936. She taught in Casey, Iowa from 1936-1939. She spent two years in New York City working as the executive secretary for the president of Prentiss-Hall publishing company. She married her Ted on January 4, 1941. Dad took work with the Army as a civilian and they moved to Camp Carson, Colorado. From there he was drafted, receiving orders to Iwo Jima & Mom taught in Schleswig for most of the next 37 years.

After retirement in 1978, she traveled to Germany several times doing work on the Hollander & Johanssen family trees. She was active in VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, BASIC fund, and many others. She loved her town and lived to be able to have her class reunion anywhere she wanted!

Her parents preceded her in death as well as her husband in 1979, brother Elwin, and sister, Mary Ellen. Those left to be amazed by her include Teddiann & Dr. Wayne Dvorak of Cedar Rapids; Lee of Warrenton, Virginia; granddaughter, Wendi Glass & Demitrius; great-grandchildren, Aqueel, Aa’ishah, and Aleem; and a LOT of friends, acquaintances, and prior students.
