Elsie Almeda (Evers) Main, 83, a resident of the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, formerly of Coggon, died Monday, January 31, 2005, at the care center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Silver Creek United Methodist Church, rural Masonville, by the Rev. Sherry Andersen. Burial: Coggon Cemetery, Coggon, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 2) at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, Paul; two daughters, Paula Main of North Liberty and Ruth Main (Dean) Soenksen of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Bernard (Maxine) Evers of Coggon; a brother-in-law, Harlen Price of Independence; two grandchildren, Tyler and Anna Soenksen; a stepgranddaughter, Samantha Soenksen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Merle Evers; three sisters, Eleanor Price, Esther Murphy and Evelyn Nye; and a granddaughter, Amanda Soenksen.
Elsie was born the daughter of Clarence and Lois (Fay) Evers on December 28, 1921, in Crivitz, Wisconsin. She graduated from Coggon High School in 1939 and Lennox College in Hopkinton in 1941. On October 4, 1943, she was united in marriage to Paul L. Main in Cedar Rapids. Elsie was a teacher at Walker Elementary for a year. Then for many years, she worked as a secretary. She was a member of Silver Creek United Methodist Church and Silver Creek Women?s Society in Coggon and American Legion Auxiliary No. 421 of Central City.
Elsie liked to knit and crochet handwork. She loved music of all kinds. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who will be greatly missed.
