Elmer J. Heims, 65, of Prairieburg, died Monday, November 25, 2002, in Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2002, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Prairieburg, by the Rev. Wayne Droessler. Burial: St. Joseph?s Cemetery, Prairieburg. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Central City, with a Scripture service to be held at 6 p.m.
Surviving are his wife, Rita; their children, Gerilyn Holub and husband Scott of Hiawatha, Bruce Heims and wife Denise of Coggon, Angie Wieland and husband Andy of Alburnett, Julie Kraus and husband John of Center Point, Carla Weeks and husband Spencer of Vinton, Eric Heims and wife Kelly of Alburnett and Rex Heims of Marion; two brothers, Herbert Heims and wife Mary of Dyersville and Stephen Heims and wife Beth of Manchester; and a sister, Jean Ann Pasker and husband Jerry of Manchester.
Also surviving are fifteen grandchildren. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Darell.
Elmer was born the son of Frank and Marie Evers Heims on October 18, 1937, in Bankston, Iowa. On October 29, 1957, in St. Joseph?s Catholic Church at Farley he was united in marriage to Rita Greenwood. Elmer was a longtime farmer in the area. He was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Prairieburg; Linn County Cattleman?s Association; Linn County Fair Board; Prairieburg Telephone Board and past Finance Chairman of St. Joseph?s Parish Council. Elmer also enjoyed woodworking.
Special pleasures were times spent with family and visiting with friends
