Ellen Sue Etzel, 65, of Alburnett, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at her home following a courageous 7 year battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Per Ellen’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Private family inurnment: Lafayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of 23 years, Ron; siblings, Kristine (Kent) Wheeler of Springville, Stevan Forkner of Shellsburg, and Dale (Becky) Forkner of Marion; brother-in-law, Keith (Kim) Etzel of Marion; sister-in-law, Sandy Stratton of FL; eight nieces and nephews, Cindy (Jim) Hradek, Clint Wheeler, Shayne Wheeler, Mariette (Ben) Eckers, Stephanie (Jeff) Forkner, Brett (Dawn) Forkner, Jordan (Jen) Forkner, and JoAnna Forkner; 14 great-nieces and nephews, Christy (Mike), Cory, Tia, Chayse, Nick, Troy, Kyrie, BreAnna, Wyatt, Bentley, Jesse, Ayla, Landon, and Bennett; and three great-great-nephews, Owen, Austin, and Devin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Ronnie and Keith Covington; and sister, Colleen Forkner.
Ellen was born April 14, 1949, in Creston, the daughter of Duane and AnnaLee (Bickford) Forkner. She graduated from Alburnett High School with the Class of 1967. Ellen married Ronald Etzel on October 7, 1990 at their home in Alburnett. She worked at Rockwell Collins for 25 years, until her retirement in 2013. Ellen enjoyed gardening, flowers, feeding the birds, and spending time with her husband, Ron. She especially loved time spent with all of her nieces and nephews. Ellen will be remembered as a very loving and giving individual. She will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in Ellen’s memory.
