Elizabeth "Betty? M. Dimmlich, 85, of Manchester, Iowa, died Tuesday evening, February 10, 2004 at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, after a brief illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 16 at the Manchester United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Hanke officiating. Friends may call at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday and at the church for an hour before services on Monday. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Betty was born on April 22, 1918, in Henrietta, OH to the Rev. Edward & Dorothea (Schlegel) Meisenbach. She attended primary schools in Henrietta, OH, Grand Rapids and Lansing, MI and Berea, OH, graduating in 1936. Betty attended Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL and North Park College in Chicago. She graduated in 1941 from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Betty taught English at the Methodist Missionary School in Pine Ridge, KY. On September 19, 1942, Betty was united in marriage to Rev. Walter F. Dimmlich at Chicago, IL. Together with her husband, she served Methodist churches in Colorado and in Whitten, Garrison, Sumner, Arlington, and Eldora, Iowa. In 1956, they served as exchange pastors to Austria under the auspices of the World Methodist Council. The Dimmlich?s served the Manchester United Methodist Church from 1967 to 1975. The couple moved to Jesup before returning to Manchester in 1979 to retire. Walter passed away on March 21, 2003.
Betty was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church. She was active in Methodist Womens Work, W.C.T.U., taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School, was a lay speaker, directed Christmas pageants and served as pianist in many churches. Betty was a Privat Dozentin and enjoyed conducting reading and study group discussions.
Betty is survived by two sons, David Lee Dimmlich of Elgin, IL and Carl Frederic (Rebecca) Dimmlich of Scales Mound, IL; two granddaughters, Katey Hannah of Platteville, WI and Laura Ann Dimmlich of Scales Mound, IL; several nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Edward & Dorothea Meisenbach; her husband, Rev. Walter F. Dimmlich; and one sister, Evangeline Weisshaar.
The family requests memorials be directed to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa.
