Elizabeth “Betty” A. Conrad, 77, of Delhi, died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the University Of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa following a short illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville by Rev. Herbert Tegeler. Friends may call from 2-7 p.m. Sunday and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Earlville.

Betty was born November 14, 1931 in Graf, Iowa, the daughter of Leo L. and Magdalene (Mohr) Goetzinger. She attended school at Lattnerville, Iowa and Dundee High School. Betty worked at the dime store and battery factory in Dubuque. On February 6, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Merlin Conrad at Lattnerville. The couple farmed near Dundee before moving to rural Delhi in 1958. Merlin died August 23, 1983. Betty continued farming until her retirement in 1990.

Betty was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earlville and belonged to the ladies’ guild. She loved her family and her biggest delight was found in her grandchildren. Betty had a strong faith, enjoyed cooking, crafts and gardening. She enjoyed her farm home and living up until her passing.

Betty is survived by six children, Dale (Connie) Conrad of Delhi, Neal (Nancy) Conrad of Hopkinton, Eric Conrad of Los Angeles, California, Arlo Conrad of Delhi, June (Bob) Naber of Dyersville and Freida (Russ) Loesche of Petersburg; eight grandchildren, Rob, Adam & Scott Conrad, Amy (fiancé, Chris Errthum), Amanda and Aaron Conrad, and Matt and Laura Naber; two sisters, Marge (Carl) Tuthill of Dubuque and Sharon (Don) Daniels of Bagley, Wisconsin; two brothers, Darrel (Shirley) Goetzinger of Marion and Gene Goetzinger of Graf; her in-laws, Art Berger of Graf, Rita Goetzinger of Cedar Rapids, Janice Goetzinger of Marion, Leo Meyer of Manchester, Margie Conrad of Asbury and Wilfred “Butch” (Anna Mae) Vaske of Dyersville; and her aunt, Ethel Gibbs of Edgewood.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin Conrad; parents, Leo J. & Magdalene Goetzinger; two sisters, Linda Berger, Gerry (Ed) Fleming; three brothers, Leo John, James & Robert Goetzinger; parents-in-law, Thomas & Angeline (Pfeiler) Conrad; and in-laws, Betty Goetzinger, Virginia Meyer, Louis Conrad, Robert (Eileen) Conrad and Alfred (Idell) Conrad.

A memorial fund has been established in Betty’s honor.
