Elesa D. Slager, 93, of Marion, formerly of Williamsburg, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at The Villages in Marion. The family will greet friends 10 – 11 a.m. Thursday August 10, 2017, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Service will follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Iowa City.
Elesa is survived by her three children, Sharon Slager of Munich, Germany, Dennis (Vicky) Slager of Marion, and Donna Slager of Oak Park, Illinois; four siblings, Edna Stangland of Williamsburg, Raymond (Delores) Doehrmann of Williamsburg, Mildred Schutterle of Norway and Olga Hauder of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Sarah Slager of Munich, Germany; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins on the Doehrmann and Slager sides, especially, Druecilla Slager of Anamosa.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978, Robert; and a brother, Herbert Doehrmann.
Elesa was born June 20, 1924, at home on the family farm in Williamsburg, Iowa. She was the daughter of Otto and Anna (Glandorf) Doehrmann. On her 24th birthday, Elesa was united in marriage to Robert William Slager on June 20, 1948, at the Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. She was employed in the offices of Wilson’s Meat Packing Plant. She was a member of the Eagle’s Club for over 30 years. Elesa was also a member of the Red Hat Society and the Widow and Widowers Club. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, making cherry pies, taking pictures, hand crafts and doing needle point. Elesa was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and bowler.
