Eleanor Ruth Kruse, 88, of 3575 Marquette Street, Apt. 312, Davenport, Iowa, died Saturday morning, June 5, 2004, in her home following an extended battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m . Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa, by the Rev. Del Preston. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Burial: Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, Davenport. Arrangements are with Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Roes and husband Gary of Davenport; her son, John Kruse and wife Peggy of Mt. Shasta, California; three grandchildren, Matthew J. Roes, D.C., M.D. of Center Point, Iowa, Marshall Kruse of Paso Robles, California, and Meredith Wood of Truckee, California; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester; her parents, Alma and William; and two sisters, Margaret Koens and Norma Winrow.

Born September 23, 1915, to Alma (Schmidt) and William Anthony in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, she graduated from Davenport High School in 1933. Eleanor married Lester John Kruse on Easter Sunday, March 28, 1937, in Pleasant Valley. She worked at Kressge's Dime Store for several years before moving to S & H Green Stamp Store where she served as an assistant manager for over 20 years. She worked for several years at The Windmill Donuts and Deli, Rock Island, Illinois, where she was famous to the public for her fresh baked pies and cinnamon rolls. She was very active with Zion Lutheran Church where she headed an organization for 15 years named "Project Renewal" which helped impoverished children deliver Christmas presents to their families. She also was a longstanding member of the Dorcas Circle at Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed baking, sewing, golfing and taking care of her flowers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa.
