Eldon D. McMillen, 80, of 3055 10th Ave., Marion, died Friday, February 11, 2011, at his home, with his family by his side, following a short illness with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 17, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa, by Rev. Mike Morgan. The family will greet friends from 4 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 2011, at the funeral home. Entombment will be at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.

Survivors include his wife, Pat of Marion; his children, Cris (Daniel) Cosman of Marion, Curt McMillen of New York, N.Y., and Lisa (Kent) Boese of Cedar Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Cory Cosman of Marion and Joshua (Bethanie) Cosman of Iowa City; and 1 sister, Cozette (Don) Caldwell of Hiawatha. Also surviving are many loving family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Eldon was born February 23, 1930, the son of Clark and Marieva (Chesmore) McMillen, in Quasqueton, Iowa. He married Patricia Von Sprecken on June 28, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church of Marion. Eldon owned the Suburban Restaurant for many years. He was a longtime land developer and most recently was part of Prairie Hill Development Company. Eldon was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Marion and had served on several committees; founding member of the Marion Economic Development Company (MEDCO); Marion Evening Kiwanis Club, and was a board member of the Marion Churches Senior Living Foundation. He was also former President and longtime member of the Marion Chamber of Commerce. Eldon served as the Treasure of the Marion Independent School District. He was the owner of the 7th Avenue East Plaza and former president of AFS which hosted foreign exchange students.

A memorial fund has been established in Eldon’s memory.
