Eileen Elizabeth (Strong) Minor, 93, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Manchester, passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at her home in the Meth-Wick Manor Community. Visitation: 4 – 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 9, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral Service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 10, at the funeral home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Maurice; her children, Mark Minor of Monarch, Montana, Neil Minor of Ryan, Elaine (Mick) Minor of Tiffin; grandson, Steven Minor of Manchester; sister Jean Strong of Springdale, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Norman Neal of Swisher; sisters-in-law, Lois Werhan and Edith Lyon of Cedar Rapids, Isabel Richardson of Iowa Falls; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, David; brother, George Strong; sisters, Doris Mae Neal and Ruth Ann Armstrong.
Eileen was born on August 31, 1922 to Walter and Thelma (Oliver) Strong at the Bowman farm in Marion. She graduated from Marion High School and then attended Cedar Rapids Business College. Eileen married Maurice Minor on August 1, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. She was employed for the Eddie Paper and later was a farm wife and raised their four children. Eileen was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Manchester and Linn Grove Church in rural Mt. Vernon and also was an active member in Church Circle. She enjoyed traveling with Maurice to Minor Society reunions. Eileen had beautiful handwriting and wrote many letters. She was a lovely seamstress, a great cook and made the best pecan rolls. She was a wonderful wife and mother who will be greatly missed. Eileen was a sweet and gentle lady loved by all.
