Effie Evangelin Eveland, 86, of Mena, Arkansas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, December 20, 2006, in her home following a short illness. Services: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 30, 2006, at the Marion Free Methodist Church, in Marion, by the Rev. Del Bear. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include two sisters, Pearl Hart of Burlington, Iowa and Mary Pfeiffer of Huntsville, Alabama; and one sister-in-law, Adaline Eveland of Alton, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Bob, two infant brothers; and one infant sister.
Effie was born May 23, 1920, in Cable, Wisconsin, the daughter of Earnest and Elsie Sophie (Schneewind) Eveland. She moved to Mena in 1990, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was very active. She had a double masters degree in teaching having attended college in Stevenspoint, Wisconsin, Greenville, Illinois, Coe College in Cedar Rapids and the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She taught school from 1949 to 1982 at Lincoln and Taylor Schools in Cedar Rapids. Effie was a member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Beta Kapa, the Mena Regional Hospice Grief Support Group and involved in various other organizations.
