Edward G. Van Dee, 82, of Marion, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday May 18, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, May 17, 2015, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m. Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda; son Bradley Alan; grandson, Jaden Daniel; siblings, Mary Brown of Cedar Rapids, Arnold Mike (Beverly) Van Dee of Cedar Rapids, Florence (Robert) Moellers of Cedar Rapids, Sarah Martens of Cedar Rapids, Carl (Sandra) Van Dee of CA, Betty Lou McGee of Marshalltown; mother-in-law, Lemira Collett; sister-in-laws, Evelyn Hudson of Wellman, Elizabeth Van Dee of Buffalo, MO, Betty Van Dee of Vining; brother-in-law, Fred Hotchkiss of Texas; special cousin, Helen Mendenhall of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Alan; brothers, John Van Dee, Andrew Van Dee, Donald Van Dee, sisters, Ida (Robert) Mahan, Grace Hotchkiss; brother-in-law, Ray Hudson; and father-in-law, Ray Collett.

He is also survived by his children from his first marriage, Marijane, Steve (Donna), Janice and Scott Van Dee, one granddaughter, two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and five step-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by another child.

Ed was born September 29, 1932, son of Augustine and Margaret (Holderness) Van Dee. Ed was very proud to be a veteran of the U.S Army. He enlisted on February 8, 1951, as part of the 407th Combat Engineers, and served 18 months in Korea with the 194th Combat Engineers. He was discharged February 7th 1954. Ed married Wanda Collett on March 5, 1966, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Williamsburg, IA. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion, and American Legion Post #298 of Marion. Ed retired from Torrance Electric on March 1, 1998. He enjoyed being outdoors, and feeding the birds, but his pride and joy was his grandson, Jaden.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ed’s memory.
