Edward G. Saucer, 81, of Marion, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Services: 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 18, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa, by Pastor David Lenth. The family will greet friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, his sons, Brian of Cedar Rapids, and Daniel (Lianne) of Sanford, Florida; grandchildren, Logan and Janele Saucer; sisters-in-law, Alyce Saucer of Auburn, N.Y., and Darlene (Donald) Gilster of Postville, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Dale Blumhagen of Bloomfield, Iowa and Gerald (Marie) Blumhagen of Castalia, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George; and son, Steve.
Ed was born January 17, 1930, the son of George and Julia (Roepke) Saucer, in Waterloo, Iowa. He entered the Air Force immediately after high school graduation. Ed spent 5 years in the Air Force. After his discharge, he attended the University of Northern Iowa and then the University of Iowa, graduating with a law degree in 1958. After living a few years in California and Illinois, he settled in Marion, Iowa. Ed was a vice president and trust officer of Farmers State Bank for approximately 10 years before opening his own private law practice. He retired in 1992.
