Edward John (Guy) Matus Jr., 53, of 2008 Lauren Drive S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, January 20, 2006, in Mercy Hospital of cancer. Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Christine Wagner-Hecht and Deacon Bill Cisler. The family will greet friends from 1:30-2:00 p.m. Monday before the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his mother, Rose (Krizek) Matus of Cedar Rapids; and son, Jason Matus of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Tyler, Chase, Brayden, and Lindsey Matus; his sister, Diane (Jim) Harris of Atkins; two brothers, Bill (Jan) Matus of Atkins and Dan (Carol) Matus of Marion; his aunt, Alice Matus of Arvada, Colorado; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward; and grandparents, Edwin and Lillian (Babi) Krizek.
Edward was born November 8, 1952, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Edward John Matus Sr. and Rose (Krizek) Matus. He was employed by Iowa Steel and the Cedar Rapids Sanitation Department. He attended St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Edward
loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, camping, and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed painting and turtle fishing. He loved his grandchildren and Tyler was his best buddy. He was a very kind man who loved people and had no enemies.
A memorial fund has been established in Edward's memory.
