Edward J. Machacek, 93, of the West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Monday, November 13, 2006, following a brief illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Saturday November 18, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 17, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his sons, Edward C. (Pat) Machacek of Atkins, Iowa and Raymond F. (Marie) Machacek of Acton, Massachusetts; five grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; two sisters, Mary Hocken of Central City and Libby (Joseph) Dalecky of Cedar Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anne; and brother-in-law, Delmer Hocken.
Edward was born March 17, 1913, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Frank and Anna Machacek. On June 5, 1936, he was united in marriage to Anne Bohac. She died March 7, 1999. He was a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids where he was a partner in the Pohlena Meat Market, retiring in the 1970?s.
He was a member of the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
