Edward James “Jim” Ironside, 81, a resident of Summit Point, 3505 English Glen, Marion, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at his home, following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 24, 2009 at St. John’s Church in Coggon by Father Wayne Droessler. The family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m., Thursday, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion, where a vigil service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Coggon.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; a daughter, Pamela Jean Ironside of Waterloo; 2 sons, Rick Allen (Carla) Ironside of Marion, and Jay Patrick (Pamela) Ironside of Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin; 4 grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Connor and Colton Ironside; a brother, Joe (Donna) Ironside of Monticello; and 2 sisters, Katherine Bergan of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Eloise Stockwell of Weathersfield, Connecticut.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Gerald.

Jim was born August 11, 1927, the son of James I. and Stella M. (Woods) Ironside in Coggon, Iowa. He attended Coggon High School until being called to serve with the Navy during W.W.II. Jim married Dorothy Bretz January 26, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the American Legion Post 298 and a lifelong member of St. John’s Church in Coggon. Jim was a field Service Representative for Beatrice Foods Service for 20 years.
