Edward “Gus” Gustoff, 76, of Center Point, Iowa, died Friday, October 10, 2008, in his home from complications related to cancer. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 13, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Walker, by Rev. Gerald Condon. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Sunday, October 12, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point where the scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Burial at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane; children, Sandra (and Mark) Lala of Center Point, William (and Sara) Gustoff of Des Moines, and Stephanie Takes of Center Point; grandchildren, Shelly, Sarah and Travis Lala, Nathanael, Jonah and Abigail Gustoff, and Cameron and Caleb Takes; sister, Donna Walker of Dakota City; brothers Robert (and Joyce) Gustoff of Solon and Rick (and Deb) Gustoff of Boone; several nieces and nephews; and precious to his heart, his dog Winnie.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Patricia Krusmark.
Ed was born December 11, 1931, in Jefferson, Iowa, the son of William and Wilma (Thayler) Gustoff. On June 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Strang in Walker, Iowa. He was employed by Iowa Manufacturing, water Supervisor for Central City for two years and 30 years for the City of Center Point.
Ed was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and was active in the Center Point Fire Department and the Center Point Ambulance Service for many years, serving as fire chief for six years. His joys were hunting, fishing, camping, bowling, golf, socializing, teasing his daughters, and debating politics with his son. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and tending to his lawn and landscaping.
In lieu of flowers, funds will be collected for gifts in Ed’s memory to the Center Point Ambulance Service, and the Center Point Fire Department.
