Edward C. Freeman, 83, of Center Point, died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, from emphysema. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 23, 2009, at First Christian Church in Center Point by Rev. John Caughron, Rev. Jeff Ginn, and Rev. Galen Banashak. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Center Point. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery, rural Toddville with military honors.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Alma; two daughters, Pat (Dale) Cress and Paula (Albert) Brown, all of Center Point; five grandchildren, Matthew (Lyndsay) Cress of Ankeny, Eric (Amber) Cress of North Liberty, Megan Cress of Cedar Rapids, Jacob (Rebecca) Freeman of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Paige Brown of Center Point; two step-grandchildren, Jeremy Brown of Center Point and Josh (Chris) Brown of VanHorne; a step-great-grandchild, Morgan Brown of VanHorne; and many nieces and nephews
Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy (Clair) Hepker of Center Point and Marilynn Demarah of Cedar Rapids.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Edward Freeman.
Edward was born May 23, 1925, the son of Ira and Grace (Dowell) Freeman in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Wilson High School and served with the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard USS Monterey CVL-26 in the South Pacific. Edward married Alma Hepker on January 1, 1948. He was a lifelong farmer. He served on the Center Point School Board for ten years. Edward retired from FMC after thirty-four years. He enjoyed his family and holidays. He was a diehard Cubs and Hawkeye fan.
Edward was a member of Greens Grove Community Church where he had been a Sunday School Teacher and served various other capacities. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 674 of Toddville.
