Edward LaVerne “Ed” Henderson, 79, of 152 Cedar Drive in Marion, died Sunday, September 7, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Linda Livingston. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife of nearly fifty-one years, Mildred Henderson; a son, Rod Henderson of Marion; daughter, Tina Henderson of Cedar Rapids; a granddaughter, Kristina (Paul) Johnson of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Darlene (George) Ulferts of Central City, Joyce Coblentz of Marion, Bonnie (Richard) Luerkens of Toddville; a brother, Lloyd (Phyllis) Henderson of Albia; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Lonnie; a daughter, Karen; three brothers, John, James “Lee”, and LaVerne Henderson; and two sisters, Lillian McMurrin and Carol Corum.

Edward was born January 4, 1929, the son of Everett and Theresa (Appleby) Henderson in rural Central City. On September 14, 1957, he married Mildred Cole at the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Edward worked at Century Engineering in Cedar Rapids for thirty-eight years, General Mills, and the recreational center at Rockwell Collins, where he retired from in 1991.

Ed enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, playing cards, and his pets. He liked to sit on his porch and watch neighborhood children play. Family was extremely important to Ed. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ed’s memory.
