Edward “Ed” Michael Boyle, 70, of Marion, died Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Father Phil Thompson. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion, where a vigil service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Burial: Campbell Cemetery in Bertram.
Survivors include his wife Suzanne (Humphrey) Boyle of Marion; eight children, Michael (Cathy) Boyle of Ankeny, Greg Boyle of Omaha, Nebraska, Scott Boyle of Mason City, Cynthia Boyle of Waterloo, Mark (Sheri) Boyle of Quincy, Illinois, Shannon Boyle of Denver, Meagen (Jason) Granberry of Detroit, Michigan, Callie Boyle of Pullman, Washington; and three sisters, Rose (Rocky) Rockafellow of North Liberty, Virginia Torgeson of Northwood, and Sandra (Skip) Bohl of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Joyce Askilson, Shirley Mills, and Clara True; and one brother, Jim Boyle.
Ed was born August, 8th, 1938 the son of James and Rose (Wolf) Boyle in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He served with the United States Army. On September, 13, 1969 he married Suzanne Humphrey in Millersburg. Ed was a cement mason by trade and member of the local Union #561 for 39 years and was also a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Ed had a variety of hobbies including reading, fishing, watching, playing and attending sporting events, particularly football and wrestling. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ed believed in living life as it is dealt; with both its joys and challenges.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Ed’s memory.
