Edna Viola Walker, 92, formerly of What Cheer and Hiawatha, died Monday, October 11, 2004, in Winslow House Care Center, Marion, after a lingering illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, October 14, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Del Bear. Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at the funeral home. Graveside Committal Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2004, at Garrett Cemetery in rural Delta, Iowa.

Survivors include a son, Larry (Lois) Walker of Marion; two daughters, Sherylyn Sue (Tim) Fairchild of Cedar Rapids and Patsy Walker of Iowa City; a brother, Paul (Sheila) Jared of Marshalltown; a sister, Teresa (Whitney) Savioe of Texas; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernie; a brother, Earl Jared; an infant sister, Dorothy; two other sisters, Iona Colbert and Lenora Van Patten; and a grandson, Michael Fisher.

Edna was born the daughter of Jesse and Elosia (Harris) Jared on September 21, 1912, in What Cheer, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Vernie Walker on January 13, 1931, in Sigourney, Iowa. Vernie died November 16, 1983.

Edna was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed a lifetime of gardening, flowers, baking, cooking and sewing. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Edna was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
