Edna Frances "Fran? Neighbor Waldron, 89, of 4845 Johnson Avenue NW, Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, December 25, 2003, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, following a short illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, December 27, 2003, at the Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Rev. Gary Sneller of Cedar Christian Church. The family will greet friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be held at a later date in the Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Iowa.

Survivors include her husband, Frank; two sons, Frank Charles Waldron and wife Suzanne of Atlanta, Georgia, and David Earl Waldron and wife Veronique of Boise, Idaho; a daughter, Joanne Helen Mauck and husband Denny of Swisher; six grandchildren, Tammy Schneider, Dustin Mauck, Linda Murphy, Teresa Payne, Christine Steinbock, and David (D.J.) Waldron; 13 great-grandchildren; and her dog, Buster. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Charles Neighbor; and a sister, Helen Neighbor.

She was born June 18, 1914, to Earl and Louise Manahan Neighbor in Center Point, Iowa. Her early years were spent playing baseball instead of playing with dolls. In her teens, she excelled in high school basketball and in the early ?30s she played semi pro basketball with the Skelly Oilers. Bowling became her favorite interest of the active life. She married Frank C. Waldron on March 5, 1936, and they remained together for over 67 years. Edna was a retired hairdresser and also a business partner with her husband at Davis Cleaners & Tuxedo Rental. She loved playing card games and never liked to lose. A more loving, caring and loyal person has never existed.
