Edna Victoria Mattson-Karteus-Sauser was born April 16, 1915, the daughter

of John O. and Frieda V. (Carlson) Mattson, on her parents' farm near

Onieda.

Edna attended Billhorn School north of Manchester. She then worked for her

parents on West Barr Farms north of Manchester on old Highway 13. On

January 3, 1934, Edna was united in marriage to William "Bill" F. Karteus in

Manchester. They settled on a farm near her parents in Delaware County

where she worked as a homemaker and helped with milking. In 1964, the

couple retired from farming and moved into Manchester. Edna then began

working for the Good Neighbor Home. Bill, Sr. passed away on April 17,

1972. On May 1, 1976, Edna married Elliott "Alex" E. Sauser at Peace

Lutheran Church in Ryan. The couple settled in Ryan. Edna retired from the

Good Neighbor Home in 1983, after 19 years of service. In 2001, the couple

moved to the Good Neighbor Home. Alex passed away on October 5, 2003.

Edna is a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan. She was a past-member of

First Lutheran Church in Manchester. She played cards in the "500 Club" in

Ryan and enjoyed the neighborhood social club.

Edna is survived by one son, Bill F. Karteus, Jr. of Marion; three

grandchildren, Jean (Greg) Graham, Jon W. (Reiko) Karteus, Jay A. (Amy)

Karteus; five great-grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, Jamie, Jessica & Jon

Karteus; two step-sons, Mike Sauser and Terry Sauser, both of Ryan; a

step-daughter-in-law, Bonnie Sauser; step-grandchildren, Bryan (Jessica)

Sauser, Michelle Sauser & Heather Sauser; step-great grandson, Jeremiah

Sauser; and a sister, Esther Grimm of Maynard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, Bill Karteus,

Sr. and Alex Sauser; a daughter, Sharon Kay Karteus; two brothers, Carl and

Arthur Mattson; four sisters, Lillie Coonrod, Ellen Hotze, Edith Ryan and

Ida Etheridge; and a brother-in-law, Laverne Grimm.

Services will be at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan on April 5, 2005 at 11:00

AM with an hour visitation before service. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home

and Cremation Service in Manchester will be in charge of arrangements.
