Edna Mae Glessner Rathje, 73, of 3470 Sunburst Ave., died Thursday, November 3, 2005, at home, of ALS. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 7, 2005, at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Marion by Rev. Thomas Hedke. Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Survivors include her husband, David of Marion; a son, Scott (Linda) Rathje of Gilbert; a daughter, Sue (Kevin) Bigbee of Williamsburg; two brothers, Charles (Arloene) Glessner of Marion and Jack (Joni) Glessner of Ridgedale, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Norm Rathje of Illinois and Darrel (Judy) Rathje of Golden Valley, Minnesota; a sister, Jo Anne (Don) Moore of Downey, California; a sister-in-law, Sharon Crowningshield of San Diego, California; eight grandchildren, Tate, Austin, Elaina and Andre Rathje of Gilbert and Jordan, Emmery, Mackenzie and Olivia Bigbee of Williamsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen; her father, Virgil Glessner, her step-father, Reginald Holton; and a brother, Georgie Allen.
Edna was born September 3, 1932, the daughter of Virgil and Helen (Morningstar) Glessner in Cedar Rapids. On June 24, 1950, she married David Rathje at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Marion. She worked for Square D, Sears, and retired from Mercy Hospital as a purchasing specialist. Edna was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Marion.
