Edith Tharp, 88, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Martelle, Iowa, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at the Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Chaplain Jim Goodrich. Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, January 25, at the funeral home. Burial: Buffalo Cemetery, Hiawatha, Iowa.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeannie (Jonny, Sr.) Wirth, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Jonny Jr. (Dotie) Wirth, Scott Wirth, Angel (Dave) McKay, Larry (Kim) Brislawn, Michelle Peyton and Missy (Dave) Wren; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Kacey, Jessica, Mandy, Tiffany, Daniel, Nicole, Joey, Jacob, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Nathan, Rachel, Colton, Savannah, Alexis, Jaxon, Abigail and Ava; and five great-great-grandchildren,
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; daughter, Carol Rossow; two brothers; two sisters; and her dog, Tag.
Edith was born October 2, 1926, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Kennedy) Miller, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On November 6, 1946, she was united in marriage to Frank Tharp in Manchester, Iowa. Edith worked at Wilson’s, sold Avon and worked in the Bakery Department for Gary’s Foods in Anamosa. Edith was a member of the Martelle Baptist Church.
Edith enjoyed fishing, camping, crafts, flower gardening, gambling and playing cards, especially Rummy. But most of all, she loved being with her family. Edith was a loving person to everyone and was everyone’s grandma.
