Edith is survived and lovingly remembered by her two sons, Alan (Bonnie) Moorhead of Gilbert, Arizona, and Steven (Karen) Moorhead of Iowa City, Iowa; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Dora Kallaus of Kalona, Iowa.

Edith was born on January 1, 1923, the daughter of Ralph and Erma Sleichter. She attended a one-room country school and graduated from Kalona High School and went on to earn her degree, majoring in dietetics, from Iowa State College (now Iowa State University). Edith became a registered dietitian after completing an internship at Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Her following employment was at a hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the University of Iowa Memorial Union Dining Service, and Mercy Hospital.

On August 8, 1948, Edith was united in marriage to Phillip Earl Moorhead in Riverside, Iowa. They made their home in Marion. When the boys were in middle school, she returned to work, spending 20 years at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. In retirement, Edith spent many years volunteering at the churches of Marion Food Pantry. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion and United Methodist Women. She and Phil traveled and enjoyed spending time with their family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edith will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Phil; brothers, Vern, Carroll, Daniel, and Richard Sleichter; sisters, Norma Fry and Dortha Chapek; and granddaughter, Christine.

Her faith in God and the love of family and friends were most important to Edith. Memorials in her memory may be directed to Marion Methodist Church.
