Ed Kaut
August 21, 1937 — July 11, 2016
Ed Kaut, 78, of Center Point, Iowa, departed this life surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, July 11, 2016, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, following a delayed diagnosis of lung cancer. Funeral services will be held at the Center Point United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, with Ken Graham officiating. Family will greet friends during the hour prior to the service. Burial: Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Iowa. Arrangements made by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.
Ed leaves his wife of 60 years, his high school sweetheart, Karen; the pride of his life, his daughter, Lori (Bill) Hannen of Hiawatha, Iowa: and the joy of his life, his granddaughter, Ashley. Also surviving are a sister, Melva Kimbler of Seaford, Delaware; two brothers, Gary Kaut of Isanti, Minnesota, and Michael (Elena) Kaut of Poolville, Texas; a sister-in-law, Carla (Robert) Albertsen of Van Horne, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Jim (Tracy) Stainbrook of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Those waiting to welcome him at heaven’s gate were his son, Tim, whom he missed dearly; his parents; a niece, Maureen Kaut; a brother-in-law, Bill Stainbrook; and a special uncle and aunt, Tom and Margaret Kaut.
Ed was a Harley man and a staunch union supporter. He loved camping, boating, watching the Chicago Bulls and Iowa State Cyclones and fixing cars. When he and his uncle, Tom got together, there wasn’t a car they couldn’t fix or at least modify to their standards. In his work life, Ed was a machinist and was employed by Collins Radio, FMC, finally retiring from Universal Engineering in 1999.
In his retirement years, Ed and Karen took several cruises to the Bahamas and enjoyed a special “Ohana” cruise to Hawaii where his family treated him to a helicopter tour of the islands in celebration of his giving up smoking. A family trip to Disney World with Papa will always be remembered by his granddaughter. Ed liked to spend time at the area casinos, but especially enjoyed watching his granddaughter perform at numerous show choir competitions, plays, and dance recitals.
Ed was a regular member of The Morning Coffee Group at The Pizza Place where they settled all the affairs of the world.
Ed will be remembered as a loving husband, father and caring grandpa.
