Earl Ray Reid, 87, of Urbana, Iowa and Yuma, Arizona, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Life Care Center of Yuma, Arizona, following a lengthy illness. Services: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point, by the Rev. Tom Felts. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 8, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial: Urbana Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Walter J. Meyocks Post #264 Urbana, Iowa.

Survivors include one son, Roger E. Reid (Sharon) of Yuma, Arizona, formerly of Marion, Iowa and Urbana, Iowa; five grandchildren, Steve E. Reid (Deborah) of Clear Lake, Minnesota, Darren R. Reid (Rebecca) of Eagle River, Alaska, Christopher R. Reid and friend Liz of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Steven L. Cole (Kelly) of Olathe, Kansas, and Robin S. (Cole) Peterson of Yuma, Arizona; ten great grandchildren; three nephews; four nieces; two sister-in-laws, Mildred Fear of Dubuque, Iowa and Eve Elliott of Marion, Iowa; one brother in-law, Roy D. Fear of Marion, Iowa; one special cousin, Marlene (Reid) Kisling plus many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Emma L. (Fear) Read on March 20, 2008; one brother, Marvin L.; one son, Leslie R. who died January 14, 1986; and one daughter, Sandra L. who died in infancy in 1947.
Earl was born September 14, 1921, near Walker, Iowa, to Earl N. and Alma G. (Carver) Reid. He married Emma L. Fear in Independence, Iowa on July 12, 1940. A 1939 graduate from Urbana High School, Earl served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded two Bronze Stars while stationed in Germany, Austria and France. He was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and other operations including Dachau. He served with the 260th Combat Engineers Battalion. Earl was co-owner and operator of the Urbana Feed & Implement Company, Urbana, Iowa for many years. He also worked for Hamilton & Company, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, traveling much of NE Iowa in machinery sales. Earl enjoyed working on his farm, joking, his CB radio and anything to do with Allis Chalmers farm equipment. He also enjoyed all the people at John’s Quickstop plus their many visits to Yuma, Arizona, and seeing all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A very special thank you to neighbors Jim and Jean Fee from the Reid family. Also a very special thank you to the staff at Life Care Center of Yuma, Arizona, and the special ladies at the Kountry Kitchen Café, where Earl ate breakfast daily.
