Earl W. Linkenback, 92, of 4008 Summerfield Lane NE, died January 16, 2008, in his home following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by Rev. Jay Jentink. Family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids with military honors by American Legion Hanford Post #5.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Wilma Linkenback of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Alice Sefkow of Sauk Rapids, MN and Gladys Browning of Independence, MO; a brother-in-law, Ray Wright of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Virginia Linkenback of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Earl was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jane; his parents; four brothers, Albert and Elmer Linkenback, and Randolph and Merle Linkenback in infancy; and two sisters, Bella Wright and Ellen Streeter.
Earl was born October 12, 1915 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Arthur R. and Alta M. (Farr) Linkenback. He graduated from Grant High School in 1933. Earl served with the Army Medical Corp during World War II in the Philippines. On June 15, 1941, Earl was united in marriage to Wilma Mae Wirtner in Kahoka, Missouri. Earl worked 43 years at Wilson Foods in the accounting and hog buying departments. He was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church or Camp Courageous in Earl’s name.
