Earl “Dean” Holub, 68, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at his home. A scripture service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion where family will greet friends and family from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Burial will follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A light lunch will follow the burial at the Marion American Legion Post #298.
Dean was born on March 29, 1954, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Earl and Bernice (Tegler) Holub. He graduated from Central City High School. Dean was united in marriage to JoEllen M. Steen in Anamosa, Iowa, on September 27, 1975. He worked at Hoebe Engineering building bridges and then worked as a semi driver for Vigortone Ag Products in Cedar Rapids, where he logged in over a million “safe driving” miles, until their closure. Dean was a cancer survivor, who also suffered from MS for 23 years, before passing due to cancer. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Dean was a very hard-working man, always working to provide for his family. He had a very quick wit. Dean enjoyed camping, going to Lake Rathbun, riding his Harley, playing cards, playing pool, and going to his mancave. His greatest love was being with his family and friends. Dean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Dean is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, JoEllen Holub of Marion; three sons, Bradley (Amber) Holub of Marion, Anthony (Mindy) Holub of Central City, Iowa, and Nicholas (Sarah) Holub of Springville, Iowa; four grandchildren, Dylan, Brinkley, Ainsley and Hadley Holub; three sisters, Linda (James) Randklev of Marion, Marge (Denny) Carson of Marion, Connie (Dan) Dietiker of Monticello, Iowa; three brothers, Donald (Bette) Holub of Prairieburg, Iowa, Daniel (RaeAnn) Holub of Prairieburg, and Darrell (Molly) Holub of Marion; and mother-in-law, Barbara Martin of Anamosa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Bernice Holub; fathers-in-law, Herb Martin and John Steen; brothers-in-law, Tom Randklev and Robert Steen; sister-in-law, Carleen Steen; and two grandchildren, Danielle and Dalton Holub.
