Earl F. Freiburger, 91, of Manchester died Friday, April 27, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. John Flaherty. Visitation: 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2012 with a Scripture Service at 5:00 p.m. Burial: St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Manchester with Military Honors.
Earl was born October 26, 1920 in Earlville, the son of John and Anna M. (Besler) Freiburger. He attended St. Joseph’s School in Earlville. Earl served in the United States Navy from 1944 – 1946 aboard the LTS 271. Upon his discharge, Earl returned to the family farm. On September 23, 1952, Earl was united in marriage to Alice P. Prier at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Prairieburg. The couple farmed near Earlville and then to a farm near Manchester in 1957. Earl also worked at Wilson Packing from 1968 – 1982. Earl and Alice moved to Manchester in December 1981.
Earl enjoyed playing cards, checkers and going to dances with Alice.
Earl is survived by his wife, Alice Freiburger of Manchester; eight children, Mary (Joe) Barker of Dyersville, Joseph Freiburger of Manchester, Francis (Joyce) Freiburger of Dubuque, Thomas Freiburger of Manchester, Agnes Cannon of Manchester, Anna Frei burger of Palmer, Alaska, Louis (Victoria) Freiburger of Manchester, and Rose (Todd) Thompson of Austin, TX; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Bill Freiburger of Hopkinton; and a sister, Anna Marie Steffen of Dyersville.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna M. Freiburger; a daughter, Theresa Marie Freiburger in 1960; a son-in-law, David Cannon; three brothers, John, Carl and Vincent Freiburger; and two sisters, Eva Mae Weigel and Grace Freiburger.
