Earl Park Elson, 96, a resident of Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids, formerly of Toddville and Marion, died there Wednesday, March 5, 2008. Funeral Services: 8:30 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Tammy Buseman. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Dunkard Cemetery in Toddville.
Survivors include a son, William Charles (Fay) Elson of Hiawatha; a daughter, Martha Joan (Keith) Cameron of Lilburn, Georgia; a brother, Lloyd Elson of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Tammy Cameron (Tori George) of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Rodney Elson of Plainfield, Illinois, Todd (Amy) Cameron of Atlanta, Georgia, and Brett Elson of Plano, Texas; and two great-grandsons, Parker and Jack Cameron.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Catherine; and a sister, Opal Hedges.
Earl was born May 22, 1911, the son of Charles and Lucinda (Filling) Elson in Toddville. On November 22, 1934, he married Catherine Mae Beaner in Dubuque. She died December 5, 2003. Earl farmed for twenty-seven years and worked for eighteen years at Wilson’s Packing House. He attended First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren in Cedar Rapids.
Earl wintered in Arizona for many years. He loved caring for his rose garden and his many pets.
