Earl "Bud? Durey, 84, of Delhi, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, November 27th, 2002 at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester, Iowa, due to complications from Parkinson?s disease. Earl?s family invites his friends to a Celebration of Life Service at 3:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2002, at the Delhi United Methodist Church. Burial of the cremains, with military rites, will be held at St. John?s Catholic Cemetery in Delhi. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service was in charge of the professional arrangements.
Earl was born October 26, 1918, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Earl Emerson and Donna (McIntosh) Durey. He graduated from the Delhi High School in 1937.
In 1942 Earl enlisted in the Army, serving as an Aircraft Armorer in World War II. On October 2, 1944, Earl was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Larkin in London, England.
After receiving his honorable discharge in June of 1945, he and Mary Ellen returned to Delhi where they farmed, Earl also worked as a carpenter. Earl enjoyed dancing and playing cards.
Earl is survived by his children; three sons, James P. (Katherine) Durey , of El Paso, Texas, Andy (Lijie) Durey of Gulf Port, Florida, Michael (Nancy) Durey of Delhi; two daughters, Luann (Steve) Dunphy of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Jane (Jeff) Rissler of Manchester, Iowa; two sisters, Hazel Schnittjer of Delhi and Jean Puffett of Manchester; thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Durey, his parents, Earl and Donna Durey, daughter-in-law, Martha Durey; a brother, James R. Durey and one sister, Harriet Kimberlin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Maquoketa Valley Dollars for Scholars fund.
