E. Louise Boddicker, 96, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Alburnett, passed away Monday, December 26, 2016, at Northbrook Manor Care Center where she lived for six and a half years. Her lifelong request was to be cremated. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Louise is survived by her three daughters, Edith McBurney of Toddville, Iowa, Suzanne Hawley of Knoxville, Tennessee and Elizabeth (Jim) Hungerford of Knoxville, Tennessee. Her family also includes 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and spouses and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Louise was born September 24, 1920, in Watseka, Illinois, the daughter of Porter and Olga (Rosenberger) McCalla, and moved to Iowa as a child. She graduated from Alburnett High School in 1938 and became a farmer’s wife. For several years, she worked at the Kozy Inn in Cedar Rapids. Later, she established a custom-made drapery business in her home and sewed drapes for many residential and commercial projects.
Family was very important to Louise, and she had a heart of gold. Christmas was her favorite time of the year giving gifts and the heart-felt excitement and pleasure of having the family together in her home. She spent hours cooking and loved every minute of it.
She was an incredibly strong woman who never gave up and was truly the backbone of her family.
The family extends a special tribute to the staff at Northbrook for the loving care, support and compassion given to their mother and grandmother.
