Dwayne William Boelter

Dwayne William Boelter, died on March 7, 2014, following a three year battle with cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. LaVerne Harms. Family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at the funeral home. Internment will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014, at Union Cemetery in Kirkwood, Pennsylvania.
Dwayne was born on February 20, 1947, in Jamestown, North Dakota to William Frederick and Inez Luella (Hogden) Boelter. He grew up in LaMoure, North Dakota, where he graduated from LaMoure High School. After graduation, Dwayne attended North Dakota State University and graduated with a bachelor of science in electrical engineering. After graduation in 1969, Dwayne accepted a position as an electrical engineer with Interstate Power Company in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1972, Dwayne was transferred to Albert Lea, Minnesota where he worked until he was transferred to Oelwein, Iowa, in 1981. In 1997, Interstate Power Company merged with several other companies to become Alliant Energy and Dwayne was transferred to Decorah, Iowa. After three years in Decorah, Dwayne was transferred back to Oelwein and then retired from Alliant Energy in 2007, when Alliant sold their transmission division to ITC. Because of his job expertise and experience, he was hired to build a team in Cedar Rapids, IA for ITC. Dwayne was a talented electrical engineer who loved his work and was proud to be part of the Interstate, Alliant Energy, and ITC teams.
In 1972, Dwayne met Linda Kay (Hogg) at church and were married on December 16, 1972. Dwayne was very committed to God, family, church, and his career. He enjoyed flying, bowling, and canoeing. Dwayne had his pilot’s license and would take the family flying before there were too many kids to fit in the airplane! As the children became old enough for school, their education was a very important consideration. Dwayne and Linda were advocates of parental choice in their children’s educational decisions. Since accepting Jesus as his own personal Savior during his college years, Dwayne knew how important it was to train children with a Biblical foundation. In order to provide a consistent message between home and school, the children were enrolled in a Christian school and Dwayne and Linda became involved in this ministry. Dwayne spent evenings working at the school doing different projects such as remodeling, teaching night school for adults, and assisting with the homeschool ministry. Dwayne was always willing to help those in need whether it be with time, talent, or finances.
In 1998, Dwayne and Linda founded their own Christian school in Oelwein, IA. When they moved to Cedar Rapids in 2008, they relocated the school as well. Faith Christian Learning Center was a vital part of Dwayne’s life. He believed God had called him to help Christian parents educate their children and although he didn’t attend school every day, he performed the behind the scenes work to make the school operate smoothly. Dwayne was planning to retire in July 2013 and help in the day-to-day operations of the school. He enjoyed teaching science, math, and algebra. Instead, June 2013 brought a new challenge when Dwayne’s cancer again returned in the form of two brain tumors.
Dwayne loved his family and taught by example a strong work ethic and generosity to others. He truly lived what he believed. He is survived by his wife, Linda of 41 years; his children Natalie Moore (Greg) of Edgewood, TX; Benjamin (Dena) of Cedar Rapids, IA; Emelie Falde (Kevin) of Clover, SC; and Adam of Cedar Rapids, IA; his ten grandchildren: Abigail, Jared, Taylor, Sophia, Micah, Moriah, Rebekah, Josiah, Andrew and Anthony; his brother Lyle Boelter and sister-in-law Sandra, San Diego, CA; his nieces and nephews, David (Brittany) Boelter, Douglas (Annie) Boelter, Christina (Joe) Holden and Angela, and their children; and his mother and father-in-law, William and Mary Hogg of Quarryville, PA.
Dwayne was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Darlene who died in childhood.
Although he is greatly missed, we know that Dwayne is in Heaven and he is waiting for us to join him. Dwayne can say with the Apostle Paul that, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me on that day, and not to me only but to all those also who love His appearing.” II Timothy 4:7-8.
